Firestop Sealant
In India: Types And Fire Stopping Products
Firestop
Sealants are mainly used to seal small gaps through penetrants like civil
pipes, electrical cables, ducts, etc., passing through your home or building
walls or floors. Firestop Sealants can be ablative, silicone or even
intumescent, and can be elastomeric which specifies their expansion or movement
capability from 25% – 50%. Silicone Besides, they are elastic, preserve
stability in high and low temperatures and are resistant to moisture,
weathering, and other chemicals.
The
prim purpose of fire sealants is to seal any small openings in order to prevent
a fire from traveling from a fire area to another area or compartment of your
home or building. Like all passive fire products, Fire Sealants, have a fire
rating that points to the time it will stop fire for.
Different
types of Fire Sealants
Ablative
FireStop Sealants: They absorb the energy of a fire to protect what is
underneath, purchasing valuable time. Ablative FireStop Sealants work by
consuming heat energy from fire, and releasing it in the form of gases because
they char to form insulation.
Intumescent
Firestop Sealants: They mainly are used around plastic pipes or materials that
penetrate through your home walls and floors. In addition to this, Intumescents
swell consequently of heat exposure, so increasing in volume while decreasing
in density. These sealants are best for use with plastic materials pipes and
materials as the intumescent material is used compliant with the diameter of a
pipe in order to assure that the expansion of the intumescent material is
enough wide to seal the opening of the pipe diameter.
Fire
stopping Products
Fire
sleeves: They are intended to seal an aperture shaped by pipes or cables
passing through a Fire Rated Wall or ceiling. The sleeve expands, in a fire
situation, to fill the available space between the service and the substrate.
In addition to this, the sleeve will crush in the case of plastic pipes and
fence off the pipe preventing the passage of smoke or fire to the adjacent
compartment.
Fire
collars: They are designed to maintain fire resistance levels and do this by
surrounding pipes and other penetrations. This prevents flames and harmful
gases from passing into other compartments.
Fire
covers: They are mainly designed for stopping fires of luminaires in fire rated
suspended ceilings. The cover, in a fire situation, expands internally to fill
or seal all the available space with a fire-resistant insulating char. When
fire sealants and gap fillers are heated at high temperatures, both expand to
prevent the spread of fire and smoke.
